Bluefield WV Rescue Squad, Inc welcomes applications for the following positions:

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age

  • Have a valid WV or VA driver’s license

  • Be able to read, write and speak English

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Be physically and mentally capable to performing the essential functions of the job

  • Not have an alcohol, substance or drug abuse problem

  • Be able to pass a physical examination by a healthcare provider approved by Bluefield Rescue

Emergency Medical Technician – Basic & (EMT-A)

Reports to:
Supervisor

Job Summary:
The EMT performs various patient care activities in the pre-hospital setting, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the state Emergency Medical Services Commission.

Essential Functions:
1. Operates the EMS communication center at times, and records all information obtained.
2. Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations.
3. Performs CPR in compliance with either AHA or ARC standards.
4. Performs pre-hospital BLS duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations and under the direction of the squad medical director.
5. Performs daily vehicle supply and maintenance check and cleans both inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis.
6. Maintains an immediate response time on all given calls.
7. Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment or all patients.
8. Maintains patient confidentiality, initial HIPAA in-service at hire date then annually hereafter.
9. All paperwork must be completed entirely and turned in to the supervisor by the end of shift.
10. Retrieves all equipment, and supplies at the time of the call.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Performs similar, less skilled tasks, including assisting with clerical duties within the department.
2. Demonstrates flexibility, as patient care needs change.
3. Works in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
4. Maintains quarters to be clean and free from hazards.
5. Maintains outside property to be orderly and free of hazards.
6. Follow chain of command for reporting hazards / problems.
7. Assist the Training Officer when evaluating calls for Q-I, Q-A.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
1. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must possess a valid WV Emergency Medical Technician certificate, and maintain state requirements.
3. Must possess a WV valid driver’s license, and 16 hour EVOC.
4. Must pass a physical agility test. Physical demands include lifting, climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to load and unload a 200-pound patient from ambulance with a partner.
5. Must possess the ability to communicate with and effectively treat patients of all ages

Working Conditions:
1. OSHA Category I tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
2. Also, will be working outside in inclement weather.

Reports to:

Job Summary:
The EMT-P performs various patient care activities in a pre-hospital setting, in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the state Emergency Medical Services Commission.

Essential Functions:
1. Operates the EMS communication center at times, and records all information obtained.
2. Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations.
3. Performs CPR, and ACLS in compliance with either AHA or ARC standards.
4. Performs pre-hospital ALS duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations and under the direction of the squad medical director.
5. Performs daily vehicle supply and maintenance check and cleans both inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis, refuels prior to shift change.
6. Maintains an immediate response time on all given calls.
7. Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients.
8. Maintains patient confidentiality. Must have HIPAA in-service upon hire date, then annually thereafter.
9. All paperwork must be completed entirely and turned in to the supervisor by the end of shift.
10. Retrieves all equipment, and supplies at the time of the call.

Additional Responsibilities:

Emergency Dispatcher (EMD)

Reports to:
Supervisor

Job Summary:
This position involves radio dispatching and clerical work operating Bluefield Rescue Squad communication instruments and coordinating with the Supervisor to schedule calls and to proficiently answer 911, and emergency calls. The employee is responsible for making decisions based on established policies and procedures. Assignments are performed according to established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior or the supervisor in charge of the shift.

Essential Functions:
1. Receives, relays, and/or transmits routine and emergency calls to BLS and ALS units.
2. Maintains a log of radio transmissions, telephone calls, and other pertinent information and facts.
3. Answers calls for Bluefield Rescue Squad after working hours.
4. Monitors police and 911 calls as required.
5. Maintains incident reports of complaints.
6. Prepares and types a variety of reports.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Performs related work as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
1. Some knowledge of office practice and procedures.
2. Some knowledge of arithmetic.
3. Skill in carrying out orders with precision and speed.
4. Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately.
5. Ability to learn and apply public safety regulations and procedures.
6. Ability to operate a sending-receiving radio console.
7. Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
8. Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Education & Experience:
1. Must have completed an APCO course or be willing to complete the next available course.
2. One (1) year of experience in the operation of radio communication equipment.
3. Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience.
